2011 Winnipeg – The Night Before

We just got back from the pre-event social at the St. Boniface Museum. For those history buffs out there, the museum is the oldest building in Western Canada as well as the largest oak log building in North America. It is also the home of a wonderful collection of Metis history.

Back to the meeting, we met up with several friends from past competitions and symposiums. Argentina, Nova Scotia and Minnesota were all back in Winnipeg. New teams included Catalonia (not Spain), Netherlands, Mexico, Bulgaria by way of Quebec, a couple of teams from France and two new teams from the USA.

Besides meeting the teams and getting the rules and other instructions for the week, the teams had the opportunity to discuss their sculpture. Our block is called “Express Yourself”.

Each day, we ride an emotional merry-go-round, as we put on our common expressions. We connect through these shared expressions.

Afterwards, we drew our block assignments. We are number 9 this year. We are told the snow isn’t that great on the outside due to the extremely warm weather, however, it is supposed to be cooling off as the week goes on.
