Voyageur Festival 2022

Unlike last week’s event in Edmonton, Winnipeg’s Voyageur Festival was cold, windy, and blizzardy. We started carving on Wednesday, carved for 4 full days and into one evening, and were very happy to put the tools down at 5pm on Saturday.

The block was an unusual size for Winnipeg (12ft x 10ft x 10ft instead of 12x12x10), but it was in pretty good shape. We had some ice and dirt, but nothing we couldn’t handle. We’d like to thank Christel Lanthier for her help and dedication to making sure we had everything we needed to have a successful carve. Also, a shout out to the following people: the guys who drove the machines that removed the snow that we chopped of the block, the people who stopped and commented on the sculpture, and to our fellow sculptors who helped make the event seem like we were in normal times.

Theressa and Terry were accompanied by Carole Dagenais and Kara Tinkler. Thanks for braving the cold and wind with us.

The sculpture is called “Unseen Emotions”.

Terry and Carole are using a wire rope saw to cut a chunk off the block.
