Before I get started, I want to say a big thank you to Andrea (Preeceville Rec Board) for her invitation and then her hospitality towards Theressa and I. It is greatly appreciated.
A second shout out goes to Ashley (Town Foreman) and his crew for making one heck of a nice block. Very little garbage, almost no ice, no cracks, and a wonderfully packed block. It is a dream carving it. They also were quick to answer any requests that we had — extension cords, ladders and as scoop.
We are a wee bit peeved at Mother Nature. She know we like -15C weather to carve in and not this -35C. Oh well, it is what it is.
Now on to the good stuff. We moved a bunch of snow of the block in preparation for making some trees in the front of the sculpture. This next part won’t surprise some of our teammates — Theressa changed the design a bit and we built up in the back.
We had a few visitors throughout the day and they all expressed that we are lucky we weren’t carving earlier in the week when the temperature was below -40C.
Below are some of our photos from today.
- Theressa and Terry having some fun before we start!

- Day 1 – Midday
- It’s cold, I’m tired, I’m sitting down — and yes, my butt is cold!
- It’s my new shovel and you can’t play with it !
- We made it this big, even though I told Terry we weren’t going to build up.
- End of Day 1
