At about 1:00am we decided that a nap was in order because we knew we had to work into the morning and we were all tired. By the time we got back to the block, the snow that had started earlier had subsided and the temperature was holding steady. The forecast was for the wind to pick up and the temperature to drop.
The last 3-4 hours of any carve are nerve racking as well as tense. There never seems to be enough time to finish everything and something new always seems to pop up that needs to be done. This morning was more of the same.
Theressa began carving the two wolves that were going in the front, while Kim and Terry got to work on the feathers on the tail and the wings. Just a quick side note, in addition to carving the block we had to remove all the snow around the block. This takes somebody away from the design work.
We finished up at about 10:30 just in time for the judges. The people had been giving their votes since 10:00am and would continue until 2:00pm. The weather waited until we finished and then got nasty. Wind gusts of 50-60km combined with a minor drop in the temperature created a nasty time. The public still came by, perhaps not in the same numbers as past years, and looked at the sculptures and took in other aspects of Rendezvous.
