We got a bit of a late start to our morning but that was OK. We had two or three small things to do and one major design element to work on.
While Terry fixed up the hand on one side and then did some finish sanding, Theressa went to work on the helmet design. It was always our idea to carve a design into the helmet, but we hadn’t settled on that design until Jon Montgomery won his gold at the Olympics. The design on his helmet was complicated and took Theressa almost 90 minutes to carve.
As you can see, Theressa took great delight in chopping (sawing) the support piece from under the sledder’s head. This was kept in place to maintain the strength of the head during the warm weather.
We had to be done carving by 12:00pm as that was when the judging started. We finished with time to spare and even had all our tools packed up and the block cleaned up.
