Did I tell you we were in Quebec City to participate in the International Snow Sculpture Competition (Canadian Edition) at the Quebec Carnival?
We are here representing Saskatchewan trying to earn the right to represent Canada next year. There is plenty of great carvers here. Not only is there a national competition, but there are provincial and school competitions going on at the same time. Next week the international teams come in to town and work on bigger blocks.
We have about 36 hours over two days to sculpt a piece out of a block that is 12 feet long by 8 feet high by 8 feet thick. The first day we sculpt from 9am to 9pm. On Saturday, we begin at 9am and work through the day AND the night to finish up at 9am Sunday morning. Then the judging begins and we find out at 3pm how we did. There are 4 awards given out (judges, public choice, artists choice and the volunteers award).
Our sculpture is called EXHILARATION. The write up that we submitted is as follows:
“A child launches himself head first down a toboggan run, courageously reveling in the heart-thumping, face-washing descent.”
