Saskatoon 2020

It’s been a long time (Jan 2013) since we did a snow sculpture in our front yard. We have been waiting for a big snowfall combined with the right temperatures (not too warm) and this year we finally got our wishes. Well, at least partly. In November we received a big dump of snow and we excitedly started plans to do a sculpture. With travel restrictions this year, it would probably be our only sculpture we do. However, the temperatures rose to levels that would make details melt away.

So, we waited until late December and finally got the ideal weather (anything below -10C is great) to carve. Below are some photos that showed the building of the form and then early stages of the actual carving. As of today, we still have many hours left before the sculpture is complete.

Just a quick note, we have had many people drive by us to look at our work. Many of them have stopped and chatted and took photos. We’ve received lots of honks and waves as well. It’s just like when we travel, but instead of people walking by (which we do get), people are driving by.

Great article. We drove down Cumberland last night except we didn’t see the sculpture. We either didn’t go far enough as we turned left off of Wilson Crescent and then turned right on to Ruth Street to go see the smurfs.

Sorry you didn’t see it in person, but thanks for trying and thanks for reading the article.
